VAT Status of Postal products and services

Following a legal challenge to the VAT exempt status of postal services in the UK and a ruling by the European Court of Justice on services that can be VAT exempt, with effect from 31st January 2011, VAT has been applied to a small number of Isle of Man Post Office products and services.

The overwhelming majority of customers will be unaffected by these changes.

Products and Services that will become subject to VAT are as follows:

The following Parcelforce services only:

For all of the above services VAT has been applied at the standard rate.

All other products and services will retain their current VAT status – standard-rated, zero-rated or exempt. For these products and services the VAT status will now be shown on all invoices for account customers. There will be no change to our pricing and therefore customers using these products and services will be unaffected by the changes.

Products and services to destinations outside the EU are zero-rated and therefore free from VAT.

How will these changes affect me?

VAT at the standard rate has been added to the above products and services. Business Customers will notice the VAT status of the product or service they have purchased being shown on the invoice - standard rated, zero rated or exempt.

Do I need to do anything?

No, VAT will be automatically added onto your invoice. If you aren’t an account customer, VAT will automatically be applied to your transaction.
