Se-tenant stamps celebrating HRH Prince Philip's lifetime of service.
We are honoured to present this stamp issue in tribute to one of the world's most famous figures, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, in recognition of his lifetime of service to the British monarchy on the occasion of his retirement from royal public engagements.
These six se-tenant stamps feature images from across HRH, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh's life; from his childhood to his Royal Navy career, with his family and on royal duties. Metallic gold is used on the Royal Cypher and also on the stamp value making an eye catching collection.
Prince Philip was one of the youngest first lieutenants in the Royal Navy after being promoted in to the position at age 21. He is a keen artist, carriage driver, polo player and yachtsman. He also founded the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme in 1956, which has grown to become a global phenomenon, operating in 140 countries and territories, with more than 2.4 million recipients in the UK alone.
As the Queen's consort he has celebrated her Silver, Golden, Diamond and Sapphire Jubilees by her side and visited countries all over the world. As the longest serving, oldest ever spouse of a reigning British monarch and the longest living male of British royal family; his contribution to Britain is immeasurable.
The issue text was written by the late Peter Jennings who was a member of the Royal Philatelic Society from 1966 until his death in 2013. The text was also contributed to by charity campaigner and Falklands veteran Simon Weston CBE.
