In a philatelic first for a British Isles postal administration, Isle of Man Post Office is honoured to present this very special first day cover, featuring four stamps, triangular in shape and cancelled with a first day of issue postmark.
Manxman, illustrator and artist Jay Cover designed the stamps and used the triangular shape to emphasise the features of the Ox, with two other animals also featured in the set that are strongly associated withe Ox, the Rooster and the Rat.
Inside the cover you will find fascinating issue text written by Richard West MBE, a leading figure in the philatelic world and who was honoured with the MBE for Services to Philately in 2012.
“For the illustrator creating a stamp design for your country is like being an athlete competing in the Olympic Games. Not only that but to do so in such an innovative way, by creating Britain’s first triangular stamp and to celebrate the Chinese New Year speaks to our Island’s global outlook, our openness our desire to embrace other cultures. It’s an absolute privilege as always to work with Isle of Man Post Office and I’m eternally grateful to them for giving me the opportunity.” Artist Jay Cover.
