  • The Isle of Man was the first country in the world to issue a base-metal circulating £1 coin when it first minted in 1978, five years ahead of the first £1 coin issued in mainland Britain. The coin features Queen Elizabeth the Second on the Obverse and the Three Legs of Mann against a map of the Isle of Man on the Reverse.
