Isle of Man Stamps & Coins to support Archibald Knox 150th anniversary birth celebrations in Peel on Wednesday

Isle of Man Stamps and Coins is pleased to announce that it will be supporting the Archibald Knox Society on the occasion of the celebration of the life of the Isle of Man's most famous artist, Archibald Knox, on Wednesday night at St German's Cathedral in Peel.

The evening will begin with a private reception in Corrin Hall, with Sam Hurt as MC – winner of the Archibald Knox Scholarship in 2012, the celebrations are to then continue at St German's Cathedral and open to the public. In addition to the Cathedral Choir, the special event will feature musical performances from Manx traditional folk trio Barrule, harp ensemble Claasagh, and mixed-voice choir Caarjyn Cooidjagh.

In support of this momentous occasion Isle of Man Stamps and Coins will provide a commemorative plaque incorporating its celebratory issue of Archibald Knox stamps and Isle of Man Post Office Chairman Graham Cregeen MHK and Stamps and Coins General Manager Maxine Cannon will present the plaque to the Dean of the Cathedral during the reception. The 150th anniversary commemorative stamps capture the vibrancy of Knox's intricate interlace and calligraphy with images originating from Knox's illuminated manuscript the Deer's Cry.

Once presented the plaque will remain in the Cathedral for the next 12 months alongside other silverware items, and on the night of the event the Cathedral will be decorated with blow ups of the stamps donated by Isle of Man Stamps and Coins.

Geraldine O'Neill Director of Archibald Knox Society said: "The Archibald Knox Society is delighted that the Isle of Man Post Office will present a framed set of their stamps on the Deer's Cry commemorating the 150th anniversary of Archibald Knox to the Dean of the Isle of Man Cathedral on the 9th of April. This will take place in a private reception in Corrin Hall prior to the public celebration event that will take place at the Cathedral. The framed set of stamps will be exhibited along with the Cathedral silver for the anniversary year."

Maxine Cannon General Manager of Isle of Man Stamps and Coins said: "We are delighted to be a part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Archibald Knox, the most famous Manx artist and it's been a privilege to produce our beautiful Knox stamps that feature Knox's beautifully illustrated masterpiece the Deer's Cry.  For the celebration we are honoured to be presenting a plaque to the Dean of St German's which will remain in the Cathedral amongst other silverware items for the coming year."
