Additional licensing services available through the Post Office

Customers can now access more vehicle licensing services via the Isle of Man Post Office Retail Network.

The 25 post offices across the Island can now process the applications for the registration and licensing of vehicles that are over 24 tons, have more than two axles as well as taxis and foreign vehicles. Previously the licensing of these vehicles was only available at the Sea Terminal in Douglas.

Isle of Man Post Office already provides a range of licensing services to Islanders on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure and the ability to provide these additional services will be a welcome boost to haulage companies and taxi drivers in particular.

Stephen Webster, Licensing Manager, Isle of Man Post Office, said:

"We are pleased to be able to offer customers this additional service. It will give them greater choice and flexibility to licence their vehicles at a location to suit them Island-wide, instead of being restricted to one central place in the capital."

Commenting on shifting the additional transactional work to the Isle of Man Post Office, Richard Pearson, Director of Highways, Department of Infrastructure said:

"It's a good opportunity to offer our customers greater flexibility in undertaking these transactions and we are very pleased that the Isle of Man Post Office can deliver this service on our behalf. The Department will concentrate on policy and legislation, delivering online services, medical fitness to drive and foreign exchange driving licences. We will continue to provide support, training and advice to the Isle of Man Post Office Licensing team."
