Thanks to a new joint initiative, Island residents are now able to buy stamps and post a letter whilst borrowing a book from the Mobile Family Library.
Isle of Man Post Office has teamed up with the Mobile Family Library to further increase access to postal services and this new partnership is available to residents across all communities Island-wide.
The Mobile Family Library is a specialist service that travels the length and breadth of the Island from Bride to Cregneash five days a week and operates 10 routes. In addition, it provides a direct door-to-door home delivery service for anyone unable to visit a local library and its computer catalogue allows the user to browse its vast collection of over 38,000 items. It also provides a service to residential and nursing homes and the housebound. The vehicle is home to approximately 2,750 books, audio CDs, MP3 and Playaways – a form of audio books which only require headphones to listen to.
The same postal services (postage sales and letter collection) is also available at the Family Library based in Westmoreland Road, Douglas and the mail posted here or via the Mobile Family Library will be collected at the end of each working day to ensure it is processed at Douglas Mail Centre that evening.

Sandra Henderson, Librarian in charge of the Mobile Family Library said:
"This is a welcome addition to our service as we visit some remote areas where it is not always possible to access postal services. We have already received comments on what a brilliant idea it is. On average 250 customers a week visit the Mobile Family Library, plus the customers who are visited in their own homes, so we believe it will become even more popular as people hear about it."
Regular library customer Amy Kissack of Crosby said:
"I think this is a wonderful service. I can't get to a post office regularly to buy postage and send my letters so the new service is very handy for me."
