Westmoreland Road Set to Move to a Postal-Only Site

From 4th September 2025, Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) will transition to offering postal-only services at the Spar outlet in Westmoreland Road, Douglas. The move will enhance access and convenience for the community, ensuring that essential postal services remain reliable, sustainable, and responsive to changing habits and expectations.

With Treasury preparing to conclude its MiCard contract in December this year, and the Department of Infrastructure digitising its driver and vehicle licensing services, IOMPO acknowledges the substantial impact these changes will have on demand for sub-Post Office counter services. These two agency contracts accounted for over 75% of non-postal transactions at sub-Post Office counters during the last  financial year, underscoring their importance to the financial sustainability of sub-Post Offices, for both IOMPO and its independent retail partners.

Despite these changes, IOMPO remains firmly committed to maintaining and enhancing access to postal services for the benefit of communities across the Isle of Man.

Mannin Retail Limited will close its Post Office counter at Westmoreland Road store at 5pm on 2nd September and when it reopens at 9am on 4th September it will continue to provide IOMPO’s full range of  postal services, but will not offer agency services such as MiCard, driving & vehicle licensing, and bill payment services, or Foreign Exchange etc. Postal services will be available from 9am to 6pm Monday- Friday, while customers can collect parcels Monday - Thursday: 8am - 8pm, Friday - Saturday: 8am - 9pm and Sunday: 8am - 7pm offering unparalleled convenience to customers. These extended hours complement IOMPO’s recent customer-centric innovations such as Online Postage and free doorstep collections, both of which have been well received. The Westmoreland Road site will continue to be a parcel collection location.

For customers requiring the non-postal services, the nearest sub-Post Office is Douglas Post Office located in Strand Street, Douglas.

Stu Peters MHK, Chairman of IOMPO, said: “We’re always working to make our services easier to use. With the shift toward online services, we’re adapting and while we already offer doorstep options for sending and receiving items, we also recognise the continued importance of alternative, convenient local access for sending and collecting physical postage. That’s why IOMPO is committed to maintaining counter services for postal needs, while continuing to expand our digital self-service options. Partnering with retailers to provide these services is a key part of our strategy to better meet customer needs, and to strengthen our role as the trusted delivery partner for the Isle of Man.”
