Isle of Man Post Office only GB postal administration to show support for Team GB Rio 2016 athletes

On Monday evening Team GB's Manx Olympian Mark Cavendish achieved a Silver medal in a hard fought race at the end of the Men's Omnium event in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Isle of Man Post Office recently released a vibrant Team GB Rio 2016 stamp collection in recognition of Team GB's participation in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and is the only Great Britain postal administration to have issued collectables in support of the team at this remarkable Games.

The Olympic Games are well underway now and Team GB is currently in second place on the medal table, ahead of China, after a record-breaking Sunday at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Sunday was Britain's best ever day at an Olympics away from home. In total Team GB won five gold medals on Sunday, Andy Murray (tennis), Max Whitlock (gymnastics), Justin Rose (golf) and Jason Kenny (cycling) all bagged golds on Sunday with another on Monday from Charlotte Dujardin (Equestrian), bringing the team tally of gold medals up to 16 so far in the Games! Britain is behind Team USA, who currently have 27 gold medals.

The Isle of Man's stunning stamp collectables are available as a set – there is also a sheetlet, presentation pack and special covers with date postmarks including first day of issue. The accompanying stamp literature includes high definition images and beautifully incorporates the colours of the Union Flag and likewise Team GB - red, white and blue. Each stamp is to the value of £1.27, and depicts the Team GB logo and a different sporting event of the Olympic Games using a range of vibrant colours - cycling, athletics, gymnastics and swimming.

Maxine Cannon, Isle of Man Stamps & Coins General Manager said: "Team GB's performance at Rio 2016 has been remarkable so far and we wish the team the very best of luck with the remainder of the Games. The Isle of Man has a strong affiliation with Rio 2016 and on Monday evening we saw Cavendish ride to silver in the Men's Omnium. The Isle of Man Post Office along with the rest of the Island are proud of Mark Cavendish and Tim Kneale's achievements at this year's Olympics and of course all the other Team GB athletes."

She continues: "We are delighted to have produced the stamps in recognition of our participation in this truly wonderful sporting event and in being the only GB postal administration to do so."
