Postal Services in Port St Mary to Continue

Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) wishes to advise customers that all current services will continue to be provided in Port St Mary, following an agreement with the sub postmaster Mr Jeff Calvert to extend the existing contract for an additional period.

The sub postmaster of Port St Mary Post Office gave notice on his contract for service last year, with the contract due to cease from 31st January 2021. The IOMPO Board were consulting on the future provision of postal services in the area when in December 2020, Tynwald approved a motion requiring IOMPO to sustain all sub post offices currently open until the Chief Minister's Community Committee reports back by July 2021. IOMPO therefore sought, and is pleased to have obtained, agreement from the incumbent sub postmaster to continue providing the existing services.

Julie Edge MHK, Chairman of IOMPO, said: “We wish to thank the sub postmaster for his agreement to continue to provide current services. We hope that services will continue to be provided until the Communities Committee reports back to Tynwald in July 2021, giving IOMPO time to consider the outcome of this, other reviews currently being undertaken by Government, and other factors such as the renewal/non-renewal of other commercial contracts it holds with Government Departments, as well as transaction volumes at that time.”

Mr Jeff Calvert, sub postmaster of Port St Mary Post Office said: ''Calvert Newsagents Ltd are pleased to be able to continue to provide Post Office Counter Services in Port St Mary for the foreseeable future.”
